# Quick Start

This guide gets fake players online in a few minutes. It assumes you finished Installation and can run `/asteroid`.

## Step 1: Generate profiles

A **profile** is a fake identity: a username plus a skin. Asteroid needs a pool of profiles before it can spawn anyone. Run this in game to generate 100:

```
/asteroid profiles generate 100
```

Asteroid pulls usernames and skins from over 100 built-in sources automatically, so you do not need to configure anything. Generate as many as you like. A good rule of thumb is a few times more profiles than your maximum fake player count.

## Step 2: Set your limits

Open `plugins/Asteroid/config.yml` and look at the `spoofing` section:

```yaml
spoofing:
  multiplier: 1.2
  min: 2
  max: 5.0
```

* `min` is the lowest number of fake players that should always be online.
* `max` is the hard cap that will never be exceeded.
* `multiplier` decides the target based on real players. See Spoofing Limits for the exact math.

For a first test, the defaults are fine.

## Step 3: Turn spoofing on

Fake players spawn only while spoofing is enabled. Toggle it in game:

```
/asteroid toggle
```

Within a few seconds you should see fake players joining. Check your tab list and player count.

## Step 4: Reload after config changes

Whenever you edit `config.yml`, apply it without a full restart:

```
/asteroid reload
```

Some settings need a full restart instead. Those are marked where they appear.

## What now

You have working fake players. From here you can make them do things on join, control where they spawn, let them chat with AI, or sync them across a network. Each of those has its own page in this documentation.
